Five-spice Fish

Total Time: 20 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 4 fish fillets or 4 cod or 4 haddock or 4 whiting fish, about 6 oz. each
  • 1 teaspoon chinese five spice powder
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sunflower oil
  • 3 scallions, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh gingerroot
  • 1 1/4 cups button mushrooms, sliced
  • 2/3 cup baby corn, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons dry sherry
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • salt and pepper

Recipe

  • 1 toss the fish in the five-spice powder and cornstarch to coat.
  • 2 heat the oil in a frying pan or wok and stir-fry the scallions, ginger, mushrooms, and corn for 1 minute.
  • 3 add the spiced fish and cook for 2 minutes, turning once.
  • 4 mix together the soy sauce, sherry, and sugar, then pour over the fish.
  • 5 simmer for 2 minutes.
  • 6 season to taste and serve.
